Collection consists of a variety of documentary films, some of which were produced by Associated Screen News or Jack Chisholm Productions. Included are Canadian Army newsreels, footage of domestic contributions to World War II, and productions sponsored by General Motors, Bell Telephone and the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests on their respective activities.

Chisholm, Jack : John "Jack" Chisholm was born 1899 in Dunvegan, Ontario. Educated at the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph, he graduated in 1923 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Thereafter, he left for California to enter the dairy industry. Chisholm soon became involved in the motion picture business as a stunt man and stand-in in silent Hollywood films. He returned to Canada in 1935 with a Hollywood production unit to produce British Quota film pictures for MGM. In 1936 he joined Associated Screen News of Montreal as an editor, later becoming a producer. Working with ASN for over 20 years, Chisholm left in the 1950s to start his own company, Jack Chisholm Productions, producing documentaries for government and industry. The new company was affiliated with Marty Maxwell's Associated Broadcasting Company. In 1948, he became the first president for the Association of Motion Picture Producers and Laboratories of Canada (AMPPLC). At the same time he was responsible for conducting the Motion Picture Television Workshop in Canada, and organizing the Motion Picture Council of Canada. In 1958, Chisholm became the sole owner of Showcase Film Productions of Toronto following the withdrawal of Maxwell ofm he Associated Broadcasting Company which held a half interest. In later years Chisholm ran the biggest stock footage library in Canada, renting more than 10 million feet of stock film shots to Canadian film and television producers. Chisholm died at the age of 84, in March 1983.
