Descriptive commentary by Dr. Maurice Haycock while viewing film footage of the visit of Lawren Harris and A.Y. Jackson, Group of Seven members, to the arctic in 1930 and 1932, and interviewed by Moving Image and Sound archivist, Richard Lochead. <30mn>~Scenes described by Maurice Haycock for film reel number one include: Cape Sparbo; Godhavn, Greenland; George P. Mackenzie, expedition leader; icebergs; boat, The Mauricie; Seargent Joy; Inuk Lukapingua (sp?) who went to the North Pole; Etah; Beothic in the ice; store house at Fram Haven; unloading supplies; typical RCMP boat; chasing a pig; crew of 35 to 40; and stormy weather at sea. ~ISN 189471 ---- Scenes described by Maurice Haycock for film reel number two include: expedition working its way towards Dundas Harbour; iceberg; Seargent Joy; Craig Harbour or Dundas Harbour RCMP post; dogs - comment about last year that RCMP used dogs but dogs still in use in Greenland; comment about Joy as a great traveller, and when he became an inspector; using lead line for sound; Captain Falk, formerly a sealer - comment about his good navigational skills; iceflow; comment about time of year when ice freezes over; pig brought up to supply food for one of the posts; polar bears; Inukjuuk; comment about Inuit rations of seal; pig; Ponds (sic) Inlet Inuit (natives); Inuit girls coming aboard the Beothic; comment about early contact and the role of the RCMP; Anglican and Catholic priests; A.Y.
