Collection consists of film and video material relating to the jurisdictional conflict between the International Union of Mine Mill and Smelter Workers and the United Steelworkers of America in Sudbury, Ontario along with related news stories. This dispute took place in 1961 and 1962 though the material in the collection spans a twenty year period from 1958 to 1978. Most of the film material in the collection was produced by the Sudbury television station CKSO-TV (1953-1980), now Mid-Canada Television (MCTV) part of Baton Broadcasting.

Mann, Ron : Toronto filmmaker Ron Mann is one of Canada's foremost documentary filmmakers. Mann established his international reputation while in his twenties with a series of award-winning theatrical documentaries, including Imagine the Sound (1981), Poetry in Motion (1982), Comic Book Confidential (1988), Twist (1992), and Grass (1999). Ron's other films include Go Further (2003), Tales of the Rat Fink (2006), Know Your Mushrooms (2008), In the Wake of the Flood (2010), Altman (2014) and Carmine Street Guitars (2018). Ron has also acted as executive producer on the documentaries Brakhage (1998), Examined Life (2008), Mighty Uke (2010), Lunarcy! (2012), Mermaids (2016) I Called Him Morgan (2016) as well as the television series Pure Pwnage (2010). In 2002, Ron also founded FILMS WE LIKE, a boutique distributor of documentary, independent and international films in Canada. Beginning with Sam Green and Bill Siegel's The Weather Underground (2002), Films We Like has released over 300 films and counting.

This material was originally produced by CKSO-TV, a television station in Sudbury, Ontario that was amalgamated into Mid-Canada Television (MCTV), a Baton Broadcasting affiliate, in 1990. In July of 1993 MCTV discarded this material when they were clearing out their storage area. Keith Clarkson, a producer with Upper Canada Moving Picture Company meeting with senior staff at MCTV to discuss a television project, suggested he would be interested in the material and MCTV offered it to him and his associate, Patrick Crowe. The two men retrieved the films from a garbage dumpster behind the MCTV building and returned it to their offices. Upper Canada Moving Picture Company intended to produce a documentary film about Sudbury's Mine Mill Union raids and approached Ron Mann to assist with financing and to co-produce the film. As part of the co-production arrangement, Ron Mann purchased the physical rights to the film material in February of 1995. Following many attempts, the project was not funded and was abandoned.
