Series consists of records created and/or maintained by the Office of Trade Relations and its predecessors, the International Trade Relations Branch and Foreign Tariffs Division. The series includes files relating to Canada's foreign trade relations, to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (G.A.T.T.), and to Commonwealth conferences.

The series contains architectural drawings of several construction projects: a) an addition to Pool Terminal no. 2, Vancouver, Alberta Pool Elevators Ltd., C.D. Howe and Company Limited, consulting engineers; b) a grain elevator for Norfolk Co-operative, Simcoe; c) a grain elevator for W.G. Thompson & Sons Ltd., Blenheim, J.W. Perrigo, engineer; d) Wallaceburg Water Elevator for St. Clair Grain and Feeds Ltd., R.G. Watson, consulting engineer. The acquisition documentation file for RG20M 86703-19 contains a report on the specifications for the addition to Pool Terminal no. 1., by C.D. Howe and Company Limited.

Canada. Office of Trade Relations : Within the Department of Trade and Commerce the Office of Trade Relations (1963-1969) was responsible for overseeing activities related to Canada's foreign trade relations. Predecessors of this office included the International Trade Relations Division (1950-1963), the Commercial Relations and Foreign Tariffs Division (1945-1950), the Commercial Relations Division (1940-1945) and the Foreign Tariffs Division (1920-1945). The Foreign Tariffs Division was formed in 1920 to provide up-to-date information on tariffs of other countries. By 1932, the Division was removed from the Commercial Intelligence Service and made a separate branch responsible to the Deputy Minister.On 1 October 1940, the Commercial Relations Division was organized to deal with commercial agreements and war-time trade problems as well as studying general foreign trade relations. A major reorganization of the Department in 1945 saw the title Commercial Intelligence Service replaced by Foreign Trade Service. This new Service consisted of the Trade Commissioner Service, including the new Area Desks, the combined Commercial Relations and Foreign Tariffs Division, the Export Division and Export Permit Branch, the new Import Division, the new Industrial Development Division, and the Trade Publicity Division, formerly the Publicity and Advertising Branch. The responsibilities of the Commercial Relations and Foreign Tariffs Division, renamed the International Trade Relations Division, were expanded in 1950. The International Trade Relations Branch became the Office of Trade Relations in 1963. On 1 January 1967, the Department of Trade and Commerce was reorganized and the Trade Policy Service now included the Office of Trade Relations and the Office of Commodity Trade Policy. The Departments of Industry and Trade and Commerce were amalgamated to form Industry, Trade and Commerce in 1969. RG20 General Inventory
