The item is a genealogy of the descendants of Jacob Bonesteel and Christian Welch, loyalists of eastern Ontario, which was prepared by Carol Ann Stuart of Thornhill, Ontario. The genealogy contains family group forms, photocopied documents, and documentation of the Bonesteel descendants' status as United Empire Loyalists. There is also information on the related Hughson, Wilcox, and Adams families.

Stuart, Carol Ann, 1945- : Carol Ann Stuart (nee Adams) is a genealogist who compiled a genealogy of the descendants of Jacob Bonesteel of Eastern Ontario. She married William Alexander Stuart in 1969 and lives in Thornhill, Ontario.

Bonesteel, Jacob, 1757-1850? : Jacob Bonesteel was born in 1757 in Rhinebeck, Dutchess County, New York. He was living in Cleverack, New York (in present day Columbia County) at the outbreak of the American Revolution and he joined the Loyal American Rangers on 22 September 1777. He was imprisoned (probably after the Battle of Saratoga) by the American patriots but eventually reached Canada and remained with the British Army until the end of the war. Jacob Bonesteel was among the first loyalists who settled on the Upper St. Lawrence River in Township No. 6 (Edwardsburg) in the summer of 1784. He married Christian Welch and they had ten or eleven children. Jacob Bonesteel died after 1850 and was buried in Mountain township, Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Counties.
