Accession consists of completed questionnaires from the 1986 Annual Retail Trade Survey (boxes 1-34). Accession also consists of bound printouts of 1986 Annual Retail Trade Survey data, "Indep stores by geo", organized by geographic area such as province, territory, or city (boxes 35-36), as well as a cross-country compilation of totals, by geographic area, of chain stores and independent stores each month by retail trade type (box 36).

10.8 m of textual records.

According to the Statistics Act, any information that makes it possible to identify an individual survey respondent cannot be divulged to anyone other than persons employed or deemed to be employed under the Act. Therefore access to the records in this accession is limited to employees and deemed employees of Statistics Canada. Researchers wishing to access the records should first contact Statistics Canada regarding current procedures for requesting access to microdata. Should Statistics Canada grant researchers permission to access the records, researchers would need to consult the records onsite at Library and Archives Canada in a specialized consultation zone, and the records would need to be requested by a Statistics Canada departmental researcher.
