The program presents a documentary film, produced by the National Film Board, on the life of Dr. Norman Bethune, Canadian surgeon, inventor and political activist who gained fame for his efforts in organizing the first mobile blood-transfusion service in Spain during the Civil War, and his medical assistance to the People's Republic of China, in 1937, during the war against the Japanese invaders. Includes rare footage of Bethune performing thoracic surgery at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal; archival footage and stills of Bethune in Spain and in China; and testimonials from various physicians and friends. <1h>
