Dyea, Alaska, during the stampede to the gold fields in the early fall of 1897. Gold crazed men landing here were forced to pack their food and supplies 575 miles over tortuous trails to the gold fields of the Klondike. The film opens with a Northwest Mounted Police officer posting a notice which reads "Warning! All travellers to Dawson via the Chilkoot Pass are warned that the Canadian government demands that each person shall have Three Hundred Dollars or One Thousand Pounds of Provisions." Pierce Phillips tackles the Klondike with $135 in his pcket which he loses in a shell game. Phillips meets up with Poléon Doret, a French Canadian trapper and river pilot on the Chilcoot Trail with the other packers. It is the story of frontier justice, of brawling and fighting and thievery in the trek for gold. A man steals Phillip's poke and is beaten and forced to carry a sign "Thief - spit on him and send him on his way". The film ends when Doret discovers gold on his hill an becomes the richest man in the Klondike. This is all he needs to ensure a union with Rouletta, the daughter of gambler Sam Kirby. <121mn 55s>

The creator of this film, Frank Lloyd, died in 1960. Copyright, therefore, expires 31 December 2011.
