Session Three of the 1991 Canadian Oral History Association Conference is entitled "Oral History and Community: The Relationship of Folklore to Other Disciplines". Chairperson Mavis Waters, historian with the Social Sciences Deptartment of York University, introduces the speakers who examine the relationship between the folkloric approach to oral history and those of other oral history practioners in the field of community research. Ronald Labelle, director and head of the Folklore Section at the Centre d'étude acadienne at the University of Moncton, talks about the folkloric and oral history studies resulting from his research conducted in the Miramichi area of New Brunswick. Carole Carpenter, associate professor of Humanities at York University and founder and president of the Ontario Folklife Centre, discusses the purpose and methodology of the project "Being Here: Stories of Settling in Ontario", a project undertaken by the Centre in 1988. Victor Huard, a doctoral student at Queen's University and teacher and researcher in history at the University of Saskatchewan, presents his paper on the oral history project, "The People of Saskatchewan: Our Ethno-Cultural Heritage", undertaken by the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society. Gabriele Scardellato, co-ordinator of the Research Resources Centre of the Military and Cultural History Society of Ontario, addresses the importance of oral history in the multicultural historical record of Ontario.
