Item consists of a poster commemorating Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee.

The principal group of allegorical images in the poster shows an inscribed multi-tiered stone plinth/elevation (centre foreground) with recumbent lions (top left), scattered laurel wreaths (bottom left) and cannon (bottom right) and upon which rests two superimposed portrait busts of Queen Victoria completly encircled by a large laurel wreath held together by inscribed and braided bands, the entire wreath surmounted by the royal crown and the dates "1837-1897". The background portrait bust shows the Queen as she was at the time of her accession to the throne in 1837. The foreground bust shows the Queen as she appeared on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of her reign in 1897. On the steps at the front of the stone plinth is the image of an innocent young Canada in the form of a naked child, its back to the viewer, who is crowned with a wreath of maple leaves, while at the same time being girded with a sword and scabbard. In its right hand, the child holds a flag pole with a partially furled Canadian flag, which acts as a container for a plethora of flowers (e.g., roses) which the child is in the act of scattering all over the top of the stone plinth. To the child's immediate left, on the first step, sits a beaver holding the stem of a single maple leaf in its mouth. In the left and right backgrounds, behind the portrait busts, are various allegorical symbols of Great Britain's imperial power (i.e. naval ships, soldiers on parade and colonial flags) all set in the bright light of an invisible sun that is hidden behind the royal crown., cat. 19/8/64.
