Postal cover of a circular with handwritten notations, prepared ca. 1954, by Vancouver Natural History Society, to promote the joint issue of a postage stamp in both Canada and the United States, for the preservation of the Whooping Crane, an endangered species.. The circular contains the following: an illustration by one W.J. Breckenridge re-drawn by one R.A. Brooke (society member?) for a complete postage stamp design (either 5ý or 7ý denomination); a suggestion for a postal cancellation; some information about the Whooping Crane and notes on the expected results from proceeding with such a stamp issue..
Business card for E.L. Paynter, Game Commissioner, Dept. of Natural Resources, Regina Sask., containing the following slogan "Save Those Whoopers" and depicting three Whooping Cranes in flight, ca. 1954..
Copy of "Forest and Outdoors", issue of April 10-16, 1949, containing a biographical sketch on Dr. William Rowan, who was the person responsible for the design of the 1955 Whooping Crane stamp issued by Canada. (See: Scott # 353 - issued 4 April 1955)..
C.B.W. Rogers for the Vancouver Natural History Society, honorary secretary of the Vancouver Natural History Society at the time of submission to the Canada Post Office Department.
Accession also includes letters between the Post Office Department and the Vancouver Natural History Society, the Saskatchewan Museum of Natural History, and the Saskatchewan Department of Natural Resources, concerning the commemorative whooping crane stamp.

Historique de la conservation :

The material from this accession appears to have been pulled from RG3, vol. 3835, file 13-7-38 Supp. 12, in 1992 and reaccessioned as 1992-264. Original correspondence from the 1950s that had been put in the accession file for 1992-264 has been added to the folder that the graphic material is stored in (1992-264, Box 4048.)
