This is a preliminary record, please consult the linked accession. Sub-series consists of records kept by the Architectural/Planning Office of the British Columbia Branch of the CMHC. The files consist largely of correspondence with architects, planners and others who have submitted project plans to CMHC for acceptance. Each file is dedicated to either a particular project or a particular type of project. Also included are files of correspondence with various associations concerned with house design.

Central Mortgage and Housing Corporation (Canada). Architecture and Planning : The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) is a crown corporation which was created in 1946 to administer the National Housing Act. Under this act, CMHC is responsible for promoting the construction of new homes, the repair and modernization of existing housing, and the improvement of individual and community housing conditions. Applicants for loans or insurance on loans from CMHC must submit copies of plans and specifications which meet certain standards. At the Architectural/Planning Office of the British Columbia Branch of the CMHC, architectural and planning documents are reviewed by CMHC architects/planners to ensure that they meet standards and comply with regulations.
