Fonds consists of oral history interviews by Gary Marcuse as the principal interviewer of politicians, public servants, musicians, composers and others in preparation for a variety of radio programing. The interviewees for the program, The cold war in Canada, broadcast on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation series, Ideas, include Jack Granastein, Geoffrey Pearson and Lister Sinclair. The interviewees for the CBC series, Mostly music, include Louis Applebaum, Maureen Forrester, Elmer Iseler, Eric Wild and others. The interviewees for the radio drama, Official secrets, include Andrew Brewin, John G. Diefenbaker and Jack Pickersgill.

Transcripts are included for interviews with J. McRuer, Joseph K.C. Sedgewick, Andrew Brewin, Jack Pickersgill, John Diefenbaker, Gerald Baldwin, J.A. Cartwright, and speeches from the Rally for the Arts by the British Columbia Coalition for the Arts.

Fonds also consists of a radio documentary entitled, From war to peace: 40 years of international broadcasting, about Radio Canada International and its contribution to international radio.

Marcuse, Gary : Gary Marcuse was born in 1949 in Ithica, New York. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University in 1973 and a MA in Regional and Environmental Planning at Cornell in 1975. As a freelance journalist, director and producer for documentary programs, he produced reports, features, commentaries and videos for a variety of CBC network series including Ideas, Arts National and Morningside. He also produced documentaries for Radio Canada International, the British Columbia Department of Education, First Western Communications, community newpapers, the Vancouver Sun and the National Film Board as co-producer with Face to Face Media Ltd.

Some noteworthy video productions that Gary Marcuse was involved in as a director/producer are First Nations : the circle unbroken (1998), Scanning television (1997), an award-winning teaching video on developing media literacy, Nuclear dynamite (2000) with Gary Marcuse as scriptwriter, director and producer with Face to Face Media Ltd. In addition, Gary co-authored a book entitled Cold war Canada : the making of a national insecurity state, 1945-1957 (1994).

Gary Marcuse is a National President of the Canadian Independent Film Caucus, past president of the British Columbia Writers' Council and a member of the Association for the Study of Canadian Radio and Telesion. NA Collection File (AV Archives): Resume of Gary S. Marcuse.
