This accession consists of records of the Bay of Fundy Tidal Power Review Board (BFTPRB). This board formed in February 1972 to review the findings of the Atlantic Tidal Power Programming Board (ATPPB). The ATPPB was formed in August 1966 as a joint initiative of the Governents of Canada, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to investigate the feasibility of a large scale tidal power project in the Bay of Fundy. That board concluded that harnessing the tidal power of the Bay of Fundy was not cost effective. However, it suggested that if alternative forms of energy grew more expensive, the original findings of the ATPPB should be re-examined. Further investigation into the possibility of tapping power from the Bay of Fundy was initiated in 1972. The BFTPRB formerly began meeting in July, 1975. In November, 1977, the BFTPRB released its findings in a paper entiltled 'Reassessment of Fundy Tidal Power.'
The records in this accession consist of the operational and research records of the BFTPRB. They consist of a variety of letters, research reports, proposals, brochures along with related engineering and design records. The textual material is organized by date.
Consists of the oversized technical drawings that accompany the textual records. 22 duplicate drawings have been sent for disposal.
