Born in 1918, Joe Plaskett is one of Canada's most successful painters, best known for his interiors and still lifes. He studied art in Canada, the United States and Europe, was the Principal of the Winnipeg School of Art in the late 1940s, and taught at the Vancouver School of Art, University of British Columbia, and at Emma Lake in Saskatchewan. Plaskett has been a permanent resident of Paris since 1957, but continues to exhibit and sell the majority of his work in Canada.

The series consists of correspondence between Alice Dexter and Joe Plaskett, exhibition notices, catalogues and reviews documenting his career, financial records which consist of correspondence, a log book and price lists detailing her exchanges with various dealers including Chris Varley, photographs, and a note relating to a painting technique.

The various topics discussed in the correspondence include Plaskett's painting, commissions, daily life, exhibitions, and business affairs relating to sales and price lists. The correspondence includes copies of some of Dexter's replies to Plaskett and a few letters relating to Joe Plaskett, from other correspondents, including a mutual friend by the name of Allard. The subject matter of the photographs is varied: one photograph, annotated by Plaskett, is of his home in Paris; one is a photograph of a floral painting; and the third is a photograph of Plaskett taken by a photographer with the Ottawa "Citizen" in 1977. The article in which this photograph appears was saved by Dexter and is located with the exhibition and publicity material within this series.
