Series consists of two letterbooks of correspondence of the Office of the Superintending Engineer of the Ontario-St. Lawrence Canals to the Director of Canal Services of the Department of Transport, for the period from July 1943 to September 1945 and from September to December 1951.

Canada. Superintending Engineer of the St. Lawrence Canals : In 1936, the Department of Transport absorbed the Department of Railways and Canals, including the administrative responsibility for all matters related to canals. The Superintending Engineer of the St. Lawrence Canals was responsible for the maintenance of the canal and reported to the Director of Canal Services of the Department of Transport.
