A personal friend of the artist's - Varley lived with the Mackays near Toronto in the 1950s - MacKay shares her impressions of Varley's childhood and family background and describes a trip they took together to England visiting his family in the Sheffield area. The interview provides intimate glimpses into Varley's artistic career; his relationship with other painters such as Tom Tomson and A.Y.
