As Dreena (Nell Shipman) backpacks through the woods with her dog Nugget, Grandpap (Daddy Duffill) gets his arm is caught in a bear trap. Unable to free himself, he starts for home dragging the trap, which is attached to a log. His grandson, Billy (Barry Shipman), comes in search of him and finds him collapsed in the snow. Billy helps him back to his cabin and then goes to seek aid. Grandpap awaits Billy's return, savouring a picturesque view of a lake, while on another part of the lake Dreena is feeding the ducks. Billy's mule becomes trapped in deep snow and he must continue alone. He reaches Dreena's cabin just as she arrives. The pair immediately set off through the deep snow with a sledge pulled by six dogs. As they cross the lake Billy is thrown from the sledge and falls through the thin ice. Dreena attempts to pull him out but falls in herself. After a tense struggle they eventually get back on to firm ground only to see the sledge heading off into the distance. Dreena and Billy must now continue on foot. As the pair struggle through freezing water and deep snow in a blizzard, Nugget frees herself from the harness of the sledge and picks up their scent. Cold and exhausted, Billy collapses in the snow, unable to continue, and she must carry him but eventually collapses herself.~Nugget finds them huddled together in the snow and gives Dreena enough inspiration to carry Billy to a natural 'snow-house' where they take refuge. Meanwhile, the sledge dogs have found a trail which leads them to the camp of two lumber-jacks. Alarmed by the arrival of a drivellers sledge the two men set off in search of the missing drivers. They meet Nugget, who guides them to where Billy and Dreena are sheltering, and the two rescuers pull the frozen pair out of their 'snow-house.' Later, Dreena rows Grandpap, Billy and Nugget out to the middle of the lake and throws the bear trap into the water. <21mn 39s>

The extant print bears the British distributor's logo which announces, misleadingly, "A Cranfield & Clark Production."~3. Shot in and around Lionhead Lodge at the northern extremity of Priest Lake, Idaho.~4. Shot before THE LIGHT ON LOOKOUT.~5. Nell Shipman, the creator of this film, died 23 January 1970.
