Evans, one of the 11 team members, was assistant zoologist to Nicholai [Hansen] who died during the expedition and was buried in the Antarctic. Evans recounts some of the highlights and difficulties experienced by the team: being the first expedition ever to winter over in the Antarctic; having their ship trapped in the ice for 40 days; falling into a deep crevice and being rescued by a team member; recording many magnetic and meterological readings; keeping the morale high in spite of the cold, the death of a team member, and the many hardships; and finally, the overland expedition to Duke of York Island when the ship was six weeks late in retrieving them.Langue :EnglishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
