Interview of Kathleen Mathers Nouch of Saskatoon, about her career as a teacher, drama teacher, playwright, drama producer and actress in amateur theatre in Canada. She talks about: her childhood; her father; how the people of British descent dominated the social life of her home town of Grenfell, Saskatchewan; the unhappiness caused by her father's gambling and reluctance to pay for her education; and her decision to become a teacher.~Nouch developed her interest in the theatre because she used to act out the parts of a story while reading it to her pupils. She also wrote plays and skits for the students. Nouch also wrote an advice column for teachers about handling problems with children in the classroom. The column appeared in the Saskatchewan Farmer publication for 10 years. The Saskatchewan Farmer also published her stories.~Also discussed are: the Dominion Drama festival and her efforts to start a class "C" drama festival in northern Saskatchewan. At this point in the interview and continuing for some time, a loud sound of what seems to be electrical interference makes it difficult to hear what she is saying. The sound quality improves when Nouch talks about teaching drama classes. She teaches classes composed of both the elderly and younger people. She calls her technique book-in-hand theatre because the actors on stage hold their scripts. Nouch feels that people are too busy to learn lines, but they are expected to act out their parts. She directs them as if they are in a "real play". She also talks about her husband and his battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Her husband's illness created great difficulties for both Nouch and her husband because they did not at first understand his increasingly strange behaviour. She has written a play about caring for an Alzheimer's patient, entitled The Vinegar Jug and it has been performed in drama workshops in western Canada.

The interview is on two reels and some of the information on the first reel is repeated on the second reel.~3. A loud hum impairs the audio signal for the last half of the first reel and several minutes at the start of the second reel.~4. Text published in the book Voice of the Pioneer, Volume 3, pp. 51-55, is based on this interview.
