Interview with Nat Taylor, movie-theatre owner and veteran of the motion picture business in Canada, by Kirwan Cox for use as source material in the National Film Board film HAS ANYBODY HERE SEEN CANADA? which traces the history of filmmaking in Canada from 1939 to 1953. Taylor reviews his own career and discusses the history of the motion picture industry from the perspective of distribution and box-office sales. Among the social and economic factors which affected the theatre business were the wartime boom, the emergence of multiple cinemas (a concept he pioneered in the Elgin Theatre in Ottawa) and drive-in theatres, and the advent of television. Contemporaries mentioned during the interview include: N.L. Nathanson, manager of the largest theatre group in Canada, Famous Players, and his son, Paul; Leonard Brockington, advisor to Prime Minister Mackenzie King; and Earle Lawson, later to be President of Odeon Theatres.
