Birney traces his interest in poetry to his time as a university professor in the 1930s, but says it was not until he joined the army during World War II that he found time to write poetry. Topics of discussion include: evolution of a poet's style; influence of poetry on Birney's prose; exploring all forms of writing; and the function of a poet in society. Birney reads two poems from his new book "Earle Birney : Selected Poems 1940-1966" and discusses the increased interest in poetry in Canada. He talks about the New Wave of young poets in Canada partly resulting from the MA in Creative Writing program at the University of British Columbia. He mentions his current work on kinetic poems.Langue :English -
