Toimi Pöyhölä was born in Ruovesi, Finland on August 4, 1903. He came to Canada on May 11, 1926, by a ship on Pacific Lines, which landed at Halifax. He lived in Mokomon for two years, in Nipigon for one-two years, and then moved to Port Arthur. He did bushwork in Finland. He was a member of Lumber Workers Union, but it was stopped when the leader, Hautamaki, was labelled as a Communist. He supported strikers, but never took active part in strikes. He was a Co-op member and on the Board of Directors in Kam. All the Co-ops had to close because of a lack of good managers. He belonged to the finnish Organization of Canada (FOC) in Mokomon, Nipigon, and Port Arthur. Activities, especially the theater, were very active. There were difficulties with the Government around the time that “Vapaus” newspaper editors, A.T. Hill and Vaara, were arrested. <25mn>Langue :FinnishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
