Television documentary series on the military campaigns of W.W. II. This program deals with the Battle of the Atlantic fought chiefly between the German U-Boats, bent on destroying Allied shipping, and convoy escorts of aircraft and corvettes. The following noteworthy personalities are shown: Hitler inspecting the German navy; Grand Admiral Raeder and Admiral Donitz being shown together; Admiral Donitz in retirement at his present day house outside of Hamburg; Otto Kretschmer, U-Boat captain, being greeted by a superior officer; Gunther Prien, another U-Boat captain, being given a hero's welcome; Winston Churchill being greeted aboard a Royal Navy vessel; President Roosevelt and Winston Churchill at their Atlantic Meeting; British Admiral John Tovey at a staff meeting; Admiral Donitz welcoming his victorious crews; Henry Kaiser, an American shipbuilder; Admiral Donitz at a meeting with Hitler; Admiral Siliax of the German navy, taking the salute on board ship; Captain Johnny Walker and Admiral Sir Max Horton, leaving a Royal Navy vessel under a guard of honour.~The following shots and scenes are shown: a U-Boat in combat, showing how the crew carry out their duties; U-Boat crewmen giving survival rations to a boatload of Allied merchantmen waiting to be rescued on the high seas; the British warships - the Achilles, Ajax and Exeter; burial of the dead of the German battleship, the Graf Spee; Captain Langsdorff in discussion with officials and officers in Montevideo; a U-Boat lair in France; members of a U-Boat crew, their eyes bound, being led below deck by Royal Navy seamen; Sutherland flying boat; an underground U-Boat factory; acoustic torpedoes; U-Boat sub-surface activity. Comments are made by: Otto Kretschmer, a former U-Boat captain; John Harvey, a British merchant seaman; Captain Peter Kramer, a U-Boat commander; Lord Fraser, Commander of the Duke of York; [Peter Gretin], a Royal Navy escort commander. <60mn>
