Canadian Northern Alberta Railway Company : The Canadian Northern Alberta Railway Company was incorporated under Dominion Act, 9-10 Edward VII, Cap. 6 of 4 May 1910 to build and operate a railway line from Edmonton to the Brazeau coalfields and the Yellowhead Pass. Some 250 miles of line as far as Yellowhead were open by 4 October 1915. As this mileage nearly paralleled that of the Grand Trunk Pacific, in 1917, under the War Measures Act, some 200 miles of track from both companies were lifted and the rail line to the Yellowhead Pass was over partly Canadian Northern and partly Grand Trunk Pacific trackage and right of way.

The Canadian Northern Alberta Railway never amalgamated with the Canadian Northern Railway although it was a wholly owned property. In 1956 the nominal separate existence of the Canadian Northern Alberta Railway came to an end when it and 16 other companies were amalgamated with and under the name Canadian National Railway Company effective 11 June 1959.
