Northern and North Western Railway (Canada) : The Northern and North Western Railway Company was formed by the consolidation of the Northern Railway of Canada and the Hamilton and North Western Railway under an agreement dated 6 July 1879. This was not an official incorporation, as both companies maintained a separate legal existence. Operations were directed by a joint Executive Committee, and profits were divided under a set formula. A separate set of records were maintained for this combined operation, which lasted from 1 July 1879 to 24 February 1888 when both the Northern and the Hamilton and North Western became part of the Grand Trunk Railway Company of Canada.
