Thousand Islands Railway Company : The Thousand Islands Railway Company was originally incorporated in Ontario on 15 February 1871 (34 Vic., Cap. 46) under the name Gananoque and Rideau Railway Company to build a line from Gananoque to a junction with the Grand Trunk. The name was changed to the Thousand Islands Railway Company in March 1884 (Ontario Statutes, 47 Vic., Cap. 67) by which time the 3.11 miles of track between Gananoque and Gananoque Junction on the Grand Trunk were in operation. The Gananoque, Perth and James Bay Railway Company, which had been incorporated in April 1884 (47 Vic., Cap. 83), amalgamated with the Thousand Islands Railway Company under the latter name in May 1888 (51 Vic., Cap. 75). However, no additional construction or operations resulted. On 6 March 1911, the Grand Trunk acquired the capital stock Although the Thousand Islands Railway Company maintained its corporate identity until 12 December 1958 when it amalgamated with and took the name of Canadian National Railway Company.
