Collection consists of materials related to the production of the Canada 1935 King George V low value definitive postage stamp series. There is a letter from A.F. Lascelles, Secretary to the Governor General indicating that the King considered the likeness of himself on the Silver Jubilee Cancer Fund card to be the best ever done of him (it would be used as design reference material for the postage stamp issue); a copy of the card referred to in the letter; a letter from Peter Calican, Deputy Postmaster General, indicating that he has enclosed a die proof of the 3 value to be issued, and that only six die proofs exist for this issue, and referring to the handstamp on the enclosed die proof; and the enclosed die proof.

Cook, Alfred P., 1911- : Alfred P. Cook, marketing consultant, philatelist, was born in New York City and educated at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachussetts, Columbia University and Cornell University, and served for six years in World War II. As a philatelist, Cook began specializing in Canadian subjects in 1923, with strengths in Canada and Newfoundland booklets and panes, and in the 1897 Jubilees. He belonged to the British North America Philatelic Society (BNAPS), has been Sales Manager for it's journal BNA Topics, and chairman of its Temagami study group; and has also belonged to the Collector's Club, New York; the Canadian Philatelic Society of Great Britain; the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada; the Booklet Pane Society; the Ithaca Philatelic Society. His awards have included gold at the Society of Philatelic Americans Exhibition; two silver medals at BNAPS Conventions; and several firsts, seconds and thirds at Central New York Federation shows. Note générale :

The CPA's A-P file indicates that Cook donated 1897 and 1898 extracts of 'Meekell's Weekly Stamp News publication to the National Postal Museum.

These materials were acquired at auction: J.N. Sissons Inc., 14 November 1989, Toronto, Ontario (see acquisition file for a note on these lots), and were formerly incorporated into the collection of Alfred P. Cook.
