The series comprises graphic and related items by or pertaining to Harold Samson Pfeiffer and which includes: drawings; prints; silhouettes; reproductions (i.e. visual reference material for sculpture); cut-outs for model and/or sculpture heads, as well as other art related records or memorabilia (i.e. medallic sculpture replica, badge, pin). Subject matter includes: depictions of the Inuit people and their way of life, including Arctic wildlife; thumbnail sketches of a wide variety of antique objects (i.e. furniture, wall fixtures, clocks, candelabra, kerosene lamps and/or lighting devices, glassware, pottery, kitchen utensils, fireplace utensils, framed ship's model, ship's figure head, sculpture, child's toy); depictions of English furniture styles 1600-1850; depictions of 19th and early 20th century horse drawn sleighs from Ontario and Quebec; depictions of pre-20th century millinery fashion and early 20th century women's dress fashion; portrait caricatures and personalized cartoons; other miscellaneous subject matter (i.e. depiction(s) of interior design, Canadain coin, foreign architectural monument [i.e. pyramids], copy of medallic portrait showing the head of a man in profile [possibly that of the artist], as well as examples of privately produced Christmas greeting cards and officially issued World War II memorabilia [i.e. "Y.M.C.A. Canadian War Services" cloth badge & "Canada / Applicant For Enlistment" metal lapel pin]). In addition, the series includes some clippings and correspondence from Pfeiffer's sitters filed amongst the photographs of Pfeiffer's portraits. Included in this material are letters from Marius Barbeau 1938; Fred Taylor 1968 (see Sarah Bradford file); Victor Polley, Stratford Festival 1970-1971 (see Leo Ciceri); Herbert Herridge 1967-1971; Lotta Hitschmanova 1979-1980; Jack Rabbit Johannsen 1974-1976; Bishop Desmond Tutu and Chief Mangosuthu Buthelezi 1985 (see Desmond Tutu); and Chief Dan George 1969-1971. The textual records described in this series have been retained with the photographic materials to which they pertain. There are also five sample pages of physiognomic measurements for sculptures by Harold Pfeiffer, filed with the art records.
