Travelogue on Indonesia in the early 1900s when Indonesia was still under Dutch rule. Aboard a Dutch liner, a group of Europeans visit some of the Dutch territories: Malaysia, the Java Islands, and the Bali Islands. The film depicts Indonesian life in cities and villages, and shows sequences on: luxurious hotels and palaces; the ruins of Hindu and Buddhist temples; street merchants; coconut carvings and batik hand-printing; the rice harvest; Indonesian dances; public bathing; a traditional funeral procession; and musical instrumentalists. <40mn>
