Meat and Processed Animal Products Division : The Meat and Processed Animal Products Division began operations as part of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency in 1997, and has since been renamed the Domestic Food Safety Systems & Meat Hygiene Directorate.

Prior to 1997, responsibility for hygiene of meat and processed animal products was the responsibility of various administrative units (now defunct) within the department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. From the 1960s to the late 1970s, this responsibility was shared by the Livestock Division and the Poultry Division of the Production and Marketing Branch as well as the Contagious Diseases Division and the Meat Inspection DIvision of the Health of Animals Branch. From the late 1970s to 1997, the responsibility was shared by Meat Hygiene Division, the LIvestock and Poultry Division (later the Meat and Poultry Division) of the Food Production and Inspection Branch.

Currently, the directorate is subdivided into two divisions: Domestic Food Safety Systems and Meat Hygiene.
