Canada. Dept. of Indian Affairs. Blood Agency : Indian agent Norman MacLeod was appointed in 1880 (Order in Council 387, 5 March 1880)with responsibility for the bands of the entire Treaty 7 area. His headquarters was located at Fort MacLeod. Early in 1882, a second Indian agent, C. E. Denny, took over responsibility for the bands located in the "northern division" of the Treaty 7 area - the Blackfoot, Sarcee and Stoney bands. Later that year, Denny removed to Fort MacLeod, on the departure of Norman MacLeod, and the bands of the "southern division" of Treaty 7 were added to his responsibilities - the Blood and Peigan bands. A sub-agent (W. Pocklington) was later appointed to administer the affairs of the "northern division" Treaty 7 bands, from a base at Blackfoot Crossing, under the overall supervision of Denny. In 1884, Pocklington took over responsibility from Denny for the entire Treaty 7 area, moving to agency headquarters at Fort MacLeod. Sub-agent Magnus Begg replaced him at Blackfoot Crossing. In October 1884, the responsibilities for the Treaty 7 area were formally split with the creation of two separate agencies.Pocklington remained in charge of the southern area bands, from his base at Fort MacLeod; Begg became Indian Agent for the northern bands, with his agency based at Blackfoot Crossing. In 1885, the agency office heretofore based at Fort MacLeod was moved to the Blood reserve and the agency became known as the Blood Agency.
