Interview by Marjorie Robinson of Reverend Howard R. Rokeby-Thomas of Kitchener, Ontario who talks about the four summers between 1929 and 1932 that he worked as a labourer-teacher for Frontier College. Rokeby-Thomas recalls his work in 1929 as a "top loader" on a stream hoist at the J. R. Booth Lumber Company in the Ottawa Valley, in 1930 his work as a miner at Levack, Ontario for the International Nickel Company, in 1931 as a farm worker and school teacher at the tiny settlement of Edlund founded by Frontier College as a "model development in Northern Ontario" and finally, in 1932 at a Trans Canada Highway construction camp in Ontario. Interview consists of discussion of the primitive living conditions and the hard physical labour expected of the labourers in the various camps and settlements, the low wages, and the many immigrants in the camp labour force. Other topics include the classes he taught in basic English and mathematics and Frontier College's role as the "forerunner in extramural education".
