Jackson of London, Ontario who talks about his experience as a labourer-teacher for Frontier College during the summer of 1920. Jackson recalls his summer at spent at CPR construction camp near MacLeod, Alberta working as a timekeeper and labourer replacing railroad ties for approximately $3.50 a day and later that same summer "balasting" (leveling railroads ties with gravel). Also recalled are the primitive living and working conditions at the camps where the men were housed in converted boxcars and worked from dawn until dark. Discussion of the Eastern European, Chinese and Scandinavian immigrant workers and their spare time interests and Jackson's attempts to teach English and arithmetic and supply reading material for the labourers provided by Frontier College. Comments on Edmund Bradwin, former principal of Frontier College, round out the interview.Langue :English -
