In the "Diary" section, co-host Norma Kent reports on the following news items: 1. A new fax machine rental service in Ottawa. 2. An environmental conservation idea re-introduced by two supermarket chains, Food City in Ontario and IGA in the Maritimes, in which, to help reduce waste, customers are offered a rebate for every plastic shopping bag they return. Includes comments by Doug Stewart (President, Food City), a spokesman for Pollution Probe, a representative of Miracle Food Mart, and customers. 3. The development of a digital darkroom software program at AT&T-Bell labs in New Jersey. In the second half of the program, co-host Bill Cameron presents "Temperature Rising", a documentary report, with Ann MacMillan, on the world's changing weather patterns, "the evidence that the global climate is heating up", and on the correlation between the three known causes of the warming: the greenhouse effect; the depletion of the ozone layer; and the warming and cooling of the Pacific Ocean off the coast of South America. Includes comments by British experts Phil Jones (climatologist), John Gribbin (author, "The Hole in the Sky"), Tim Palmer (Weather Forecaster), and Martin Parry (University of Birmingham); as well as graphics and footage showing patterns of abnormal and extreme weather variations throughout most continents. <17mn>
