Series consists of correspondence received in the Military Secretary's Office during the period that administration of Indian Affairs was under the jurisdiction of the Commander of the Forces. The series also contains a few petitions, claims and other administrative documents and is arranged in chronological order. In December 1826, the Military Secretary, Major-General H. C. Darling, was also appointed to the position of Deputy Superintendent General of Indian Affairs. From that point onward, the correspondence in this series is addressed, for the most part, to Darling in his capacity as Deputy Superintendent General of Indian Affairs.

Lower Canada. Military Secretary : The management of Indian Affairs in both Upper and Lower Canada was placed under the jurisdiction of the Commander of the Forces by General Order of 13 May 1816. By General Order of 13 April 1830, the management of Indian Affairs in both Provinces was returned to the respective civil Governors. RG10 General Inventory
