Fonds consists of mint sheets of labels and postal covers for the Juan de Fuca Despatch Service, a photograph, and textual documentation providing additional information on K.M. Robertson Ltd. The photograph depicts Ken Robertson, Michael Shemilt, and Robert J. Frost inspecting the first run of the K.M.R. Investment brochure (ca. 1980).

K.M. Robertson Ltd : Kenneth M. Robertson started as a full-time stamp dealer in Edmonton in 1959 on his retirement from the Regular Army. In 1960 he moved to Victoria, B.C., where he operated K.M. Robertson Ltd. By 1980, the business had grown exponentially, requiring the addition of a partner and the formation of a company -- K.M. Robertson (1980) Ltd.

Robert J. Frost, who had fought with Ken Robertson in the Korean War (with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry), joined as the new partner. At the same time, the company formed a subsidiary, K.M.R. Investments Ltd. to specialize in the creation and marketing of rare stamp portfolios for investors.

The Juan de Fuca Despatch Service was started by K.M. Robertson Ltd., in 1965, to carry mail during Canadian mail strikes. The courier service operated between Victoria, British Columbia and Port Angeles, Washington, USA. Between 1981 and 1991 the service operated year-round, making runs twice a week. The service was terminated on 27 September 1991.

The labels from 1965 to 1981 were designed by Ken Robertson and most were printed by Morriss Printing of Victoria. The labels from 1982 to 1991 were designed by Robert J. Frost and printed by Island Blueprint of Victoria.

Both K.M. Robertson (1980) Ltd. and K.M.R. Investments were sold in 1991. Correspondence with Robert J. Frost, legal documents within the accession file.

Originally acquired by the National Postal Museum (Canada Post Corporation). Transferred to the Canadian Postal Archives (National Archives of Canada) in 1988. Additional material donated to the National Archives by Robert J. Frost in 1999.
