The subject is vacationing in the Rockies: trout fishing in the Athabasca Valley; the approach to the Columbia icefield, on foot or horse; the exhilaration of smooth skis on the long snow slopes; and the abundant wildlife of the Jasper animal sanctuary, "Song of the Mountains" finds fresh overtones of sound; the throb of train wheels, shrill echoes of whistles, and the soft hiss of steam in the prevailing music of the Canadian Rockies. In the valleys the shy deer runs through the underbush, the mettled trout flickers in clear water, and by the roadside the black bear clowns. The film closes with a long view of Emperor Falls. <18mn>
