This program of discussion and documentaries about international affairs is preceded by news headlines read by David Compton. Next is a documentary produced by Spanish television, entitled "Mission to Bombay", about several Spanish Jesuit missionaries who have lived in India for many years. They have failed in their mission to convert Indians to Catholicism, but they have been spiritially enriched by the people and Indian culture. This is followed by a documentary on two Italian villages, one without enough single men and the other without enough single women, and how the villages are trying to solve this problem. The program closes with the European Diary segment, in which correspondent Cliff Lonsdale reviews the major events that have taken place in Europe in the 1980s. Among the events discussed are the changes in Britian brought about by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; growing European links created by the European Economic Community; the Solidarity movement in Poland and other changes in Eastern Europe; and the rise of Mikhail Gorbachev.
