Continuation of live recording of Defend Mine Mill rally at the Sudbury Arena. a) Address by Yves LeMay, President, International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers, Port Colborne Local 637, on situation of new United Steelworkers of America local in Port Colborne having to re-negotiate union check off, medical coverage; inexperienced stewards who cannot process grievances; failure to collect dues. He reports Mine Mill activities in Port Colborne on court case over Local 637 assets; membership meetings; handling of compensation cases and welfare activities; repayment to national office of per capita tax withheld under former President James Babirad's administration. b) Address by Ken Woods, President Mine Mill Local 1026 at Thompson, Manitoba, on Steel raid in Thompson; gangsterism, bribery - ¨two bottles of whiskey and a carton of cigarettes¨. He reports on Steel's Nickel Conference in Manitoba; failure of Steel to sign collective agreement in Lynn Lake, Manitoba. c) Presentation by Pearl Moir of $200 to Defense Committee from Sudbury Ladies' Auxiliary Local 117. Address by Charley Brooks, President United Automobile Workers Local 444 in Windsor. Speaks on rank-and-file support for Mine Mill; the UAW strike in Oakville; his motion to Ontario Federation of Labour Conference in support of Mine Mill which resulted in Canadian Labour Congress President Jodoin calling him a friend of Communism; nomination of Jodoin as Labour Hero of the Year by reactionary newspapers. He comments on the 1956 merger which created the CLC as a betrayal of the ideals of a united trade union movement resulting in collaboration of high-salaried union bosses with companies, declining union membership, speed-ups, layoffs, profit-sharing agreements, etc. d) Address by Harvey Murphy, President District 1 Western District of Mine Mill, on effect of disruption of Inco negotiations caused by Steel raid on bargaining elsewhere. e) Chairman Ken Smith announces meetings.
