Arborg is a largely Iclandic community. Gislason was one of the first farmers in the area to breed leaf-cutter bees, essential to the production of alfalfa. Gladys Gislason discusses the breeding process extensively. Gislason is active in farm politics, and was the first farmer in the series to mention the embarrassment felt in receiving subsidies.
