Sub-series consists of three file sequences from the first RCAF central registry relating to aircraft accident investigations. Typically the files contain correspondence, investigation notes and the proceedings of the Board of Inquiry into the accident. In some instances the files also contain photographs of the crash scenes.

The file primaries are the following:

1021-4 block files covering both civilian and military aircraft accidents involving aircraft registered under the initial registration system adopted by the Air Board. In this system Canadian Government aircraft were registered with the prefix C-GY. File numbers were assigned sequentially, e.g. 1021-4-24 for HS2L Flying Boat registered as G-CYEA. This file sequence also includes accidents to privately owned aircraft, as there was no civilian body to investigate accidents to non-military aircraft until the Department of Transport established control over civilian aviation in 1936.

1100 block files covering military aircraft accidents involving aircraft registered under the consecutive numeric system adopted by the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1928. The files in this block are arranged according to the registration number assigned to the aircraft, e.g. 1100-1-98 for the Fleet Model 7B, with registration no. 198.

1300 block files covering military aircraft with Royal Air Force registration numbers. In this system registration numbers include an alphabetic sequence followed by a number, e.g. 1300-AJ590 for the Harvard II with registration no. AJ590. All the aircraft covered in this file series crashed in Canada during the Second World War.

Finding aid is a typed and handwritten file list relating to volumes 5283-5287, reels C-5917 to C-5920, C-5929 to C-5939 (1989-90/096). 24-103-1 (90: Ouvert)
