She recalls what life was like in a large farm family, the family pets, leisure activities, how she worked her way through school by telling fortunes at a local tea-room, and by working as a housecleaner and babysitter for townsfolk who liked to hire hard working farm girls. She also remembers the difficult years of the Depression of the 1930s, when farmers gave up raising livestock because transportation and other costs exceeded the prices the farmers were getting for the animals; food handouts and other efforts to assist people hit hard by the Depression and her family's move from the farm to Chilliwack, British Columbia in 1933.~Edith Hewson describes activities she and her family enjoyed, such as reading, playing the piano and participating in a debating club.Langue :EnglishRemarques :Détails de l'inventaire : -
