Series consists of policy and general correspondence relating to the activities of Government Office Economies Control. The records include copies of orders issued by the Director, progress reports, minutes of meetings held in connection with the government economy drive and related correspondence. The series also contains a scrapbook of newspaper clippings and numerous loose clippings describing the activities of the division. (RG44, Vols. 73-77)

Canada. Dept. of National War Services. Division of Government Office Economies Control : An additional responsibility was given to the Department of National War Services with the formation of the division of Government Office Economies Control. Under authority of Order in Council P.C. 4428, 18 August 1942 drastic economies in the use of paper and supplies, and in the printing and distribution of government publications were to be effected through the appointment of a Director of Government Office Economies Control. The administration of Government Office Economies Control was transferred, by Order in Council P.C. 6690, 26 October 1946, from the Department of National War Services to become the personal responsibility of Hon. J.J. McCann, as a member of the Privy Council. RG44 General Inventory
