He served the federal government as Assistant Deputy Minister, Finance, 1930-1932, Comptroller of the Treasury, 1932-1940, and Auditor General of Canada, 1940-1959. He was a member of the Royal Commission on Government Organization, 1960. Sellar died on 4 January 1965.
