Series consists of files from the former Department of Defence Production relating to shipbuilding and NATO Committee files on armaments requirements. Also included are files related to conferences and meetings and financial other defence matters. The contemporary central registry file is usually preceeded by a three letter acronym indicating the branch or the division which created the files. To facilitate research, all files without an acronym or number originating from these branches or divisions are part of the former registry dates usually called "branch records".

Series also includes 11 technical drawings of a 1985-1986 refit to the Canadian Coast Guard Icebreaker Simon Fraser by Versatile Vickers Inc., showing arrangement, lines and machinery (contract OMF 84-D1380).

Marine and Industrial Machinery Products Centre : This Branch is responsible for providing contract management, ship design and engineering services to customer departments and agencies; for providing functional direction to regional personnel engaged in contracting for products centre commodities and technical inspection related to the building and repairing of civil, government ships; for the negotiating, awarding and management of contracts on behalf of departments and agencies of the federal government and for procurement in Canada by the United States and other allied governments.
