The letters were selected for copying because of their relevance to Canada. Included are letters relating directly to Canada, 1809-1814. They include a discussion of what role Canada might play during a war with the United States of America. Also included are letters from Caesar Colclough, Chief Justice of Prince Edward Island and Edward Ellice. The fonds is found on microfilm reel A-1959.Provenance :Nom(s) additionnel(s) :Biographie/Histoire administrative :Whitbread, Samuel, 1764-1815 : Samuel Whitbread was the only son of Samuel Whitbread (d. 1796), of Southill, Bedfordshire, England. He owned a brewery. Whitbread married Elizabeth, eldest daughter of Sir Charles Grey in 1789. He was elected as a Whig to the House of Commons to represent Bedford in 1790. He died by his own hand in 1815.
