Sub-series consists of records created and maintained by the Canadian National Telegraph Company and includes income statements, balance sheets, official's salary payroll, journals and ledgers, 1921-1944.

In volumes 16730-731, there are also reports, memos, and correspondence on various aspects of CN Telegraphs as well as the creation and operation of the subsidiary Northwestern Communications System. This followed roughly the Northern Alberta Railway and then the Alaska highway through Alberta into the Yukon, and operated from the late 1940s into the early 1960s.

Canadian National Telegraph Company : On 17 September 1920, under Order in Council P.C. 2247, the name of the Canadian Northern Telegraph Company was changed to Canadian National Telegraph Company. This company operates communication facilities for both railway and commercial purposes. Since its incorporation the company has been nominally or actually enlarged by the acquisition of several other companies. Effective 1 November 1920 the management of the operations of the Grand Trunk Pacific Telegraph Company were entrusted to it and the two companies amalgamated on 13 May 1954 under the name Canadian National Telegraph Company. It acquired from the American owned Western Union Telegraph Company its British Columbia lines in 1924 and its lines in the Maritime Provinces in 1929. Those latter included both Western Union lines and those of the Anglo-American Telegraph Company and the Dominion Telegraph Company. The western Dominion Telegraph lines were already controlled by Canadian National Telegraph Company as they were leased to the Great North Western Telegraph Company of Canada and the Dominion Telegraph property was actually purchased in 1949. The property Montreal Telegraph Company, also operated under lease to the Great North Western was purchased in 1954. Various Western Union lines in Newfoundland were acquired in 1950.
