Sub-series consists of notes on agendas and reports from the proceedings of a number of League Assemblies, prepared by Canadian delegates. These records do not cover every Assembly; only those for 1922, 1924, 1927-1938.

League of Nations. Assembly : Throughout the First World War there was continual public discussion over the need for a body to police international relations. In early 1918 both the United Kingdom and the United States publicly endorsed this plan. In August, when the Sir Robert Borden attended the Imperial Defence Conference, Canada voiced her support for this concept, which by this time had become known as the League of Nations. At the Versailles Peace Conference in 1919 these ideas were transformed into a reality with the establishment of the League of Nations and the drafting of its Covenant. There were at this conference questions about a single representative for the various British Dominions. Canada and the other dominions, naturally, objected to this proposal, pointing to their contribution to the Allied war effort.

Their position was upheld, and each received separate representation in the final draft of the Treaty and the Covenant. The League held its first Assembly in 1920, and one was held each year thereafter until the outbreak of war in September 1939. Canada sent delegations to each of these Assemblies, with the government of the day appointing the officials to attend. Some countries, including the United Kingdom, appointed permanent delegations to the League, but Canada and the other British Dominions did not follow this practice. RG25 General Inventory
