Included are some 75 letters from Langbord's brother Nate dating from 1935 until his death in 1949. Written in response to her own letters sending news home from New York, they document her attempts to find work, the rounds of the casting offices, and her debut in "Winterset", as understudy replacing the lead, Latin-American actress Margot. The letters also document life back in Toronto, with references to Canadian press about Langbord's career; the family's business in lumber and salvaging in Toronto; family visits to New York; family news; journalist and family friend Hy Bossin; Communist Party candidates in recent election; Nate's involvement in a club called the Independent Bachelors Association; his own theatre experiences in Toronto with the Theatre of Action; hearing Eva on the radio; seeing films and plays in Toronto; and Nate's eventually leaving the family business. There are 2 letters 1935, 1937 from Langbord's brother Karl, one on Atlas Wrecking and Salvage Co. letterhead. There are 6 letters from Langbord to her brother Ben, 1939-1941, providing a glimpse of her social life in New York and documenting her work in radio and attempts at writing, as well as her efforts to help Ben get established in the entertainment world in the U.S. (with references to Charles Bruce at Canadian Press and Xavier Cugat, the actress Margot's uncle). There are 3 letters from Langbord to her parents 1949, including a reference to Al Hirshfield. Among the family correspondence are 2 letters in Yiddish, one on Jewish Labor Committee, L.A., letterhead and one on Free Voice of Labor, N.Y., letterhead, both relating to Nate's death in 1949 and offering the family condolences. As well as the family correspondence, there is a small amount of other correspondence. Included is an undated card from Hy Bossin and a letter from him 1957, a note from CBC producer Andrew Allan 1953 and a postcard from director Silvio Narrizzano 1963. A letter from Mary Polk, niece of the British intellectual and labour activist Rudolph Rocker, reflects the connections between the Langbord and Rocker families. Also included in the series is CBC correspondence documenting Langbord's career there.Source :PrivéAncien no de référence archivistique :MG31-D238 -
